LAMAR COUNTY, Ala. — Some 777 elementary school children will receive $5,000 worth of school supplies, including hand sanitizers to guard against swine flu, thanks to ENSTOR's Freebird Gas Storage Facility and Iberdrola Renewables.

In these tough economic times, a helping hand is always appreciated and 342 students at Vernon Elementary and 435 students at Sulligent Elementary will receive basic school supplies.

"Lamar County Sheriff's office alerted us at the Freebird Gas Storage Facility that the children lacked even basic safety supplies, such as hand sanitizers during this swine flu season," said David Lockhart, Freebird Operation Coordinator. "We knew we wanted to act as quickly as possible because the children are back in school already."

David Merchant, Operations Supervisor and the Freebird Staff presented $2,500.00 checks to John Crestman of Sulligent Elementary and Tracy Mixon of Vernon Elementary.

"We care about the health and safety of our local communities," said Ralph Currey, President and CEO of Iberdrola Renewables. "The medical industry says one of the best ways to prevent the spread of flu is by keeping hands clean. In this case, safety truly is in our hands."

ENSTOR Operating Co. LLC is the owner and operator of Freebird, an affiliate of Iberdrola Renewables. Iberdrola Renewables is the world's leading provider of wind power with more than 3,000 MW in the US. Iberdrola Renewables owns more than 600 MW of clean, gas-fired generation.
