ORANGE, Connecticut — December 18, 2018 — United Illuminating (UI), Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG) and Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG) today distributed more than $400,000 in grants aimed at helping community and neighborhood organizations across the state improve energy efficiency and reduce their energy costs.

During a ceremony at the Energize Connecticut Center in North Haven, the three Connecticut subsidiaries of AVANGRID, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), awarded grants to 59 nonprofit organizations in 25 different communities throughout Connecticut. The grants, ranging from about $4,500 to more than $18,000, were provided under the state’s Neighborhood Assistance Act tax credit program.

“This holiday season, we are grateful for this opportunity to help our nonprofit partners save on energy bills, so they can spend more on the programs and services that make our communities such wonderful places to live, work and grow,” said Tony Marone, president and CEO of AVANGRID’s Connecticut companies. “We’re pleased help our partners achieve ongoing savings.”

Since 2010, UI, SCG and CNG have awarded more than $3.3 million in grants through Connecticut’s Neighborhood Assistance Act (NAA) Tax Credit Program, which offers a corporate tax credit to encourage businesses to provide financial support to qualified local nonprofit organizations.

Projects supported in 2018 include upgrades for the Beardsley Zoo’s greenhouse energy conservation project; energy efficiency grants for Capital for Change, a community development financial institution based in New Haven; and support for energy-efficient lighting at Hartbeat Ensemble’s Carriage House Theatre in Hartford.
