PORTLAND, Ore. - Iberdrola Renewables, Inc. today announced it has signed a contract for Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD) to purchase wind energy from Iberdrola Renewables' newly constructed Hay Canyon Wind Project, located in north central Oregon, along the Columbia River Gorge. The utility will receive all of the project's output starting in early 2009. The installed capacity of the project is 100.8 megawatts (MW). The long-term power contract was signed with wind developer Hay Canyon Wind, LLC, a subsidiary of Iberdrola Renewables, Inc., the world's largest wind power provider with operations in 20 countries. Iberdrola Renewables' North American headquarters are located in Portland, Oregon, and the company employs 422 people in Washington and Oregon.
"This demonstrates our ongoing commitment to adding clean, renewable energy sources to our energy portfolio," said Snohomish County PUD General Manager Steve Klein. "With the addition of this latest wind project, in just two years the PUD has gone from no wind resources to an energy portfolio with more than 8 percent dedicated to this clean, renewable resource."
"Iberdrola Renewables is proud to work with Snohomish County PUD, and is committed to our long tradition of working with our Northwest and public power customers to meet their renewable energy needs," said Barrett Stambler, vice president of origination for Iberdrola Renewables.
