Orange, CT. — October 1, 2025 — Avangrid, Inc., a leading energy company and member of the Iberdrola Group, announced that Iberdrola CEO Pedro Azagra has been named CEO of the Year- Runner Up by CEO Magazine recognizing his past tenure as CEO of Avangrid. Pedro Azagra’s recognition as CEO of the Year- Runner Up for his leadership at Avangrid is powerfully affirmed by his recent promotion to CEO of Iberdrola, underscoring how his strategic vision and impact in the U.S. positioned him to lead one of the world’s largest energy companies.

Azagra was selected from a pool of 13,000 applicants and selected by an elite panel of judges that reviewed his leadership against six criteria:

Azagra brings more than two decades of international executive experience to his leadership at Iberdrola. Prior to his role of CEO of Avangrid, he served as Chief Development Officer and a member of the Operating Committee of Iberdrola, S.A, Avangrid’s majority shareholder. In that role, he was the architect behind Iberdrola’s expansion into key global markets, accelerating growth across Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
His global experience is underscored by a career of high-impact transactions. Pedro has led the execution and integration of more than 120 major deals totaling over $120 billion, directly enabling Iberdrola’s entry into the U.S., U.K., Brazil, France, Japan, Australia, and other strategic markets. These efforts not only increased shareholder value but advanced energy adoption on a global scale.
