Avangrid Wins Security Award Recognizing Advanced Third-Party Risk Management
CSO Award from Foundry honors organizations with outstanding security projects and initiatives
ORANGE, Conn. — March 10, 2026 — Avangrid, Inc., a leading energy company and member of the Iberdrola Group, announced that it has been granted the 2026 CSO Award, the most prestigious honor for security organizations and individuals. Avangrid’s Corporate Security and Resilience Office was recognized for advancing the company’s Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) program in response to cybersecurity, data privacy, and geopolitical risks in the energy sector. Third-party vulnerabilities remain one of the most significant threat vectors facing the energy sector, and strengthening the program is essential for protecting Avangrid’s operations, customers, and reputation.
“Receiving the CSO award underscores the dedication and expertise of the Avangrid teams who work tirelessly to anticipate and reduce security risks, protect our vital infrastructure, and safeguard the customers and communities we serve,” said Jose Antonio Miranda, Avangrid CEO. “As the energy sector faces increasingly complex cyber and geopolitical risks, our Corporate Security and Resilience Office continues to raise the bar with industry-leading intelligence capabilities.”
Avangrid was recognized for its transition to a more flexible and advanced third-party review system that allows for better tracking, organization, and multi-team collaboration. This redesign evaluates prospective vendors for security posture, cyber risks, and potential entry points that malicious actors could exploit, strengthens data protection and privacy compliance, and assesses vendors’ handling and storage of Avangrid data.
Avangrid also combined its third-party risk management program with its award-winning corporate intelligence capabilities, including advanced intelligence for monitoring, discovery, and network analysis, to detect undisclosed relationships, such as ties to high-risk individuals, companies, or foreign entities that may create operational or reputational concerns. Avangrid’s program uses sophisticated tools and dark web access to persistently monitor for new vendor breaches, potentially discovering data exposures before even the vendor is aware.
“This year’s award winners show how security teams have repositioned themselves as strategic business enablers,” said Beth Kormanik, Content Director of the CSO Cybersecurity Awards & Conference. “They tackle business challenges by leveraging new technology and ideas and delivering detailed planning and strong execution. Their organizations are stronger for these efforts that protect revenue continuity, improve resilience, and strengthen compliance. We congratulate them and look forward to celebrating them at the CSO Cybersecurity Awards & Conference."
