Avangrid Foundation Supports Red Cross Disaster Preparedness

ORANGE, CONNECTICUT — March 15, 2018 — Avangrid Foundation announces support for the American Red Cross Disaster Responder Program. Avangrid Foundation is an independent organization that funds philanthropic investments in areas where AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR), a diversified energy company, and its subsidiaries operate. The Foundation is pleased to contribute $250,000 and join other corporations and foundations that provide one of the highest levels of support toward Red Cross preparedness and relief efforts. The Foundation is committed to not only disaster relief but strengthening community preparedness.

“We understand the value of tactical preparation and operational excellence in times when critical services are needed,” said James P. Torgerson, president of Avangrid Foundation.  “Through the Foundation’s donation, we help the American Red Cross prepare for disasters before they strike, and enable the organization to provide immediate aid to families and individuals at their moments of greatest need.”

“Ongoing financial support from members of the Disaster Responder Program helps support Red Cross disaster relief services, providing food, shelter, emotional support and other essential assistance,” said Mario Bruno, CEO, American Red Cross Connecticut and Rhode Island Region. “We are grateful to the Avangrid Foundation whose support allows Red Cross volunteers to directly assist disaster survivors and support the first responders who work tirelessly at the scene of a disaster.”

The Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters each year across the country, including home fires, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes and wildfires. Red Cross services are provided to people in need of assistance at no cost and regardless of income through the generosity of Red Cross donors.

This Avangrid Foundation donation allows the Red Cross to train volunteers and to secure and maintain the shelters, vehicles and supplies necessary for rapid emergency response on all scales. This support also allows Red Cross responders to remain on hand to assist people as they recover, and to help them prepare for the next disaster.

AVANGRID’s family of companies has a long history of support and partnership with the Red Cross, from local blood drives to regional emergency planning efforts and emergency response.
