Avangrid Foundation Supports Binghamton Philharmonic’s Educational Programming

The Avangrid Foundation helps expand access to arts and music education for students across the Southern Tier

Binghamton, NY — May 22, 2026 — The Avangrid Foundation, the philanthropic arm of leading energy company Avangrid Inc., a member of the Iberdrola Group, today announced its support for the Binghamton Philharmonic’s upcoming educational event for the 2026-2027 season, “Sophia at the Symphony,” a performance designed for students in grades 3-8.

“At Avangrid, we believe strong communities are built through meaningful investments in education and culture,” said Avangrid CEO Jose Antonio Miranda. “Supporting the Binghamton Philharmonic’s programming reflects our commitment to inspiring young minds, expanding access to the arts, and creating opportunities for students across the region to experience the transformative power of live music.”

“The Avangrid Foundation is proud to partner with the Binghamton Philharmonic to make high-quality arts and culture education accessible to all students,” said Pablo Colón, Director of Corporate Citizenship and Executive Director of the Avangrid Foundation. “Programs like ‘Sophia at the Symphony’ not only enrich learning but also help foster creativity, inspire curiosity, and builds a lifelong appreciation for the arts in our communities.”

The Philharmonic will invite 3,000 elementary and middle school students to the Broome County Forum Theater for a 50-minute performance featuring guest violinist and Southern Tier native Sophia Werner. The program will introduce young audiences to the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, Igor Stravinsky, and Samuel Barber through a dynamic blend of storytelling and live orchestral performance.

Participating schools will be provided with program-based lesson plans, functioning as both preparation for concert attendance and general music education classroom materials. Open to all students, the second performance is designed as a “sensory concert”, with programming adapted for students with sensory sensitivities.

"We are thrilled to bring Sophia Werner back to her home region to inspire the next generation of musicians," said the Binghamton Philharmonic. "With the vital support of the Avangrid Foundation, we are able to make this world-class musical experience accessible and inclusive for every student in our community."

The Binghamton Philharmonic is the Southern Tier’s largest and longest-serving professional symphony orchestra. Today, the Binghamton Philharmonic serves up to 10,000 people annually through innovative, engaging, and affordable programming, meeting its mission of “Building Community Through the Power of Live Music.”
