Avangrid Foundation Awards $100,000 in Grants to Wildlife Rehabilitation Centers
ORANGE, Conn. — January 6, 2022 — The Avangrid Foundation, the primary philanthropic arm of leading sustainable energy company AVANGRID, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), today announced a total of $100,000 in grants to 13 wildlife rehabilitation centers as part of its Wildlife Rehabilitation Program The grants support operational capabilities and expand outreach to communities within the service area of the AVANGRID family of companies to improve knowledge and awareness of wildlife resources.
“We’re thrilled to announce these grants, provided in collaboration with the AVANGRID family of companies and Wildlife Compliance team,” said Laney Brown, vice president of sustainability at AVANGRID. “Many of the partnerships established through this program have spanned multiple years, deepening our collaboration and collective ability to make real positive impact for the good of wildlife and our environment.”
This round of Wildlife Rehabilitation grantees, resulting from the second consecutive year that Avangrid Foundation has issued a nationwide request for proposals, spans ten states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Maine, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Iowa. The grantees include:
- Liberty Wildlife (Arizona): Address record weather conditions by adding evaporative coolers in enclosures for heat-sensitive birds and mammals.
- UC Davis California Raptor Center (California): Expand the capacity of its Operations Supervisor, who leads volunteer coordination, training, scheduling and the development of educational programming.
- Ojai Raptor Center (California): Cover a portion of a veterinarian's salary, medications, surgical, and testing supplies to enhance their rehab efforts.
- Sharon Audubon (Connecticut): Hire an intern to support their organization’s efforts.
- Roaring Brook Nature Center (Connecticut): Support operational expenses necessary to maintain programming and intake at its Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic.
- Center for Wildlife (Maine): Expand their research and collect data on toxins in the environment through bloodwork and necropsy for keystone species such as seabirds, bats and turtles.
- Hawks Aloft (New Mexico): Support internal and external education and training
- Whispering Willow Wild Care (New York): Purchase food for their 24 permanent education ambassador birds and expand its educational programming, including new materials, and expanding into economically disadvantaged area to reach youth.
- Nature’s Nursery (Ohio): Purchase food for the seven education ambassador raptors they permanently house.
- Blue Mountain Wildlife (Oregon): Support their Remote Education Enablement project, which helps bring their birds to the virtual classroom and expand access to programming.
- Wildlife Works (Pennsylvania): Construction of their new Nature and Education Center.
- Red Creek Wildlife Center (Pennsylvania): Support operation expenses associated with wildlife rehabilitation.
- Saving our Avian Resources (SOAR) (Iowa): Construction of a new flight enclosures for small raptors—American kestrels and Eastern screech owls.
