AVANGRID Foundation Announces 2016/2017 International Energy & Environment Scholarships
Masters-level scholarships support study in energy-related fields including sustainable energy, environment, climate science and data science research in Spain and Scotland
New Gloucester, Maine, February 8, 2016 – The AVANGRID Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for master’s studies in energy and/or the environment at ICAI, School of Engineering at Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, Spain and at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland for the 2016/2017 academic year.
The AVANGRID Foundation coordinates and funds social responsibility and educational programs for AVANGRID, a diversified US energy and utility company and global affiliate of Spanish energy giant, Iberdrola S.A.
The AVANGRID Foundation scholarship program is open to students of US nationality to pursue master’s-level work with an emphasis on sustainably energy, environmental science and climate-related areas of study, in addition to more specific business areas.
The grants cover full tuition, fees and health insurance and a monthly stipend of €1200 at Universidad Pontificia Comillas and £1200 at the University of Edinburgh for other expenses.
“We’re pleased to provide these opportunities for students to learn from international experts as we educate a new generation of leaders,” said Robert Kump, president of the AVANGRID Foundation. “We’ll need their enthusiasm and innovative ideas especially in light of the recent American Business Act on Climate Pledge and the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties 21 in Paris. These students will make our planet more environmentally sound and more energy efficient.”
Students can apply to Universidad Pontificia Comillas to study the following areas:
- Renewable energy
- Sustainable energy systems
- Environment
- Clean combustion technologies, emissions management
- Energy efficiency
- Smart distribution networks
In addition to these areas of study, students applying to the University of Edinburgh can also apply to programs in:
- Energy Storage
- Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
- Cyber-Security and Data Science
