Avangrid Foundation and RG&E Make Donation to Ibero Senior Center

Rochester, N.Y. – A donation from Avangrid, Inc. - made in partnership with RG&E - will help expand programming at a local community center.

The organizations are giving $10,000 to the Ibero Senior Center on East Main Street. The funds will be used for wellness and socialization activities.

Ibero says its Centro de Oro provides services for dozens of seniors each week. Among them are many who came to Rochester from Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria.

In 2017, following the hurricane, Ibero provided services for hundreds who were forced to evacuate Puerto Rico, gathering donations and providing necessary resources.

In a statement, Ibero’s director of elderly services, Raquel Serrano, said, “We are so pleased to receive this generous grant. These funds will support the services we provide to Latino seniors in our socialization center, which is growing rapidly along with our needs...With the Avangrid Foundation funds, we will increase health and wellness activities that will continue to improve social-emotional levels, optimize interdependence and provide therapeutic activities like Zumba and culturally-relevant activities.”
