ORANGE, Conn. — April 24, 2024 — Pedro Azagra, CEO of Avangrid, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), a leading sustainable energy company and a member of the Iberdrola Group, has been named a Trailblazer in Clean Energy by City & State. This award recognizes the innovators and groundbreakers in New York’s clean energy sector who are developing revolutionary clean energy tech, implementing groundbreaking programs, advocating for transformative policies, enhancing economic opportunities and leading the charge toward a clean energy future. Avangrid has two New York subsidiaries: New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E).
“Being recognized as a Trailblazer is a tremendous honor,” said Azagra. “Avangrid is very proud to play a fundamental role in advancing New York state’s ambitious clean energy goals. Through NYSEG and RG&E, we’re integrating more renewable energy onto the grid, investing in transmission and distribution grid enhancements, and helping our customers adopt more energy-efficient, less carbon-intensive technologies. By following Iberdrola's vision, led by Chairman Galán, we're creating a sustainable energy future for New York and contributing to creating a better and brighter planet for all.”
Azagra was appointed CEO of Avangrid in May 2022 and has a long history with the company, having served on its board and executive committee since 2019. His influence extends globally, with board memberships at Siemens Gamesa, Iberdrola Mexico and the Neoenergia Group in Brazil, among others. A graduate of the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas and the University of Chicago, he has been teaching at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas since 1998.
NYSEG and RG&E are helping deliver the clean energy future to their customers through a variety of innovative programs and technologies. This includes expanding access to electric vehicle chargers, advancing the NYS Clean Heat Program through a geothermal energy project in Rochester, and upgrading their transmission system to create pathways for nearly 2 gigawatts of existing and planned renewable energy facilities in New York's Southern Tier.
