Avangrid CEO Jose Antonio Miranda Announces Leadership Appointments

Orange, CT — July 7, 2025 —Avangrid, Inc., a leading energy company and member of the Iberdrola Group, today announced two critical leadership appointments, as CEO Jose Antonio Miranda has named Joe Purington as CEO of Avangrid Networks and Sy Oytan as CEO of Avangrid Power. Purington and Oytan, both bringing years of operational and leadership experience within Avangrid, assume their roles effective immediately.

In June 2025, Avangrid announced that its former CEO, Pedro Azagra, was appointed by Iberdrola Executive Chairman Ignacio Galán and the Iberdrola Board of Directors, as CEO of the Iberdrola, S.A.  With Azagra’s appointment, Miranda was named CEO of Avangrid while Kimberly Harriman was appointed Deputy CEO.


Purington assumes the role of Networks CEO bringing 28 years of experience at Central Maine Power in roles of increasing responsibility. Purington previously served as President and CEO of CMP, assuming that position in 2021. Last year, Purington expanded his role to take on the additional responsibility of overseeing and coordinating Networks’ shared services including Planning & Regulatory, Customer Service, Operations, Gas, and Business Development. He will now oversee all of Avangrid’s operating companies, and Trish Nilsen, CEO, NYSEG and RG&E, and Frank Reynolds, President and CEO, CNG, SCG & UI and CEO - BGC, will report directly to Joe.


Oytan assumes his role as CEO of Power after joining Avangrid in 2020. Prior to Avangrid, Oytan held senior roles at independent power producers in Europe and at global firms including Arup, Siemens Gamesa, and Schlumberger. Oytan brings more than 24 years of experience, including leading the development, construction, and operation of more than 10 GW of energy projects worldwide, including wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, and gas-fired combined cycle technologies.


Oytan holds executive education credentials in business administration from Yale University and INSEAD. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Middle East Technical University in Turkey and a master’s degree in industrial management from Clemson University in South Carolina. He most recently served as Avangrid’s Chief Operating Officer of Offshore.
