Lempster, NH October 7, 2008. Three-bladed rotors, each the size of a football field, now grace the top of almost all 12 new wind turbines as the Lempster Wind Power Project nears completion and prepares to generate electricity using nothing but wind as fuel. Iberdrola Renewables officials joined together with State Senator Bob Odell, Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH), the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC), the Lempster Select Board and other community partners to discuss the progress of the wind farm construction on Lempster Mountain in Sullivan County. The wind farm is scheduled to complete construction and begin delivering emission-free electricity before the end of the year.

The project will be New Hampshire's first large scale commercial wind farm and is expected to produce enough emission-free electricity to power over 10,000 typical New Hampshire homes each year, the pollution-offset equivalent of removing an estimated 5,700 cars from the road.

"Seeing the wind turbines rise above Lempster Mountain was impressive both as a feat of construction and a symbol of energy independence," said Ed Cherian, project manager for Iberdrola Renewables. "We are delighted to bring the environmental and economic benefits of a modern wind project to a community that is doing something more than talking about future energy-they are embracing it."

The power generated from the Lempster Wind Power Project will be purchased by PSNH, which will resell a portion to the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, the local Lempster electric service provider. PSNH and NHEC recently completed building the electrical interconnection circuit necessary for the Project.

"Expanding PSNH's renewable energy portfolio with new wind power is an exciting development for our customers and all of New Hampshire," said Gary Long, PSNH president and chief operating officer. "We remain committed to working with the State and with other partners on significant projects like this, which help meet our objective of new renewable energy at a fair cost to our customers."

"The Co-op is pleased to have been a part of this collaborative effort to bring the largest wind power project in the state on-line. We believe this joint effort will be a useful model for future renewables projects that, like Lempster, require PSNH and NHEC to closely work together to construct the needed interconnection facilities, " said Ray Gosney, NHEC executive vice president.

The 24 megawatt Lempster Wind Power Project will include 12 Gamesa wind turbines standing nearly 400 feet tall. They are comprised of four tower sections, the nacelle, which houses the generator and gearbox, and a three-bladed rotor with blades that are 139 feet long.

"Lempster is so proud to be the home of this clean, green energy supply," said Mary Grenier, chairwoman of the Lempster Selectboard. "It is a wonderful addition to our community and should be an excellent example of how we can achieve energy independence."

Iberdrola Renewables is currently the world's leading provider of wind power with more than 8,000 MW of wind power in operation globally now. Between 2008-2012, the company will invest $26.8 billion globally to achieve installed capacity of close to 18,000 MW and production of more than 42,000 GWh. Iberdrola Renewables will invest $8 billion in the U.S. between 2008 and 2012 and plans to install 1,000 MW of wind power each year in the U.S. www.iberdrolarenewables.us.

PSNH is New Hampshire's largest electric utility, serving more than 490,000 homes and businesses. The company owns and operates a power generation portfolio totaling about 1,140 megawatts, including Northern Wood Power at Schiller Station, which replaced a 50 MW coal boiler with a 50 MW boiler that burns clean wood products.

The New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC) is a member-owned and controlled electric distributor serving approximately 80,000 members in 115 towns and cities.
