Pedro Azagra
Chief Executive Officer
Pedro Azagra was appointed to the position of CEO in May 2022. Pedro has served as a member of the Avangrid Board of Directors since 2019, and previously served as a member of the Board of Directors from 2014 to 2018.
He formerly served as the Chief Development Officer for Iberdrola, where he has executed more than one hundred transactions and led the international expansion of Iberdrola. Pedro has a degree in Law and Business Administration from the Instituto Católico de Administración y Dirección de Empresas (ICADE) at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas in Madrid, and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
Jose Antonio Miranda
President & Chief Executive Officer, Avangrid Renewables, LLC
Jose Antonio Miranda was appointed Avangrid Renewables President and CEO in September 2022. He leads the growth and development of the company’s renewable business in the United States. Jose Antonio has extensive renewables leadership experience. Prior to joining Avangrid Renewables, he served as CEO of Onshore in the Americas region for Siemens Gamesa and Chairman of its boards in the U.S., Mexico, and Brazil. He also served as Secretary of the Board and Executive Committee member of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). Prior to his 14-year tenure at Siemens Gamesa where he held roles in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, he held a variety of roles over a ten-year period at the multinational engineering firm ABB.
He has a master’s degree in business administration from ICADE (Universidad Pontificia de Comillas, Madrid, Spain) and a master’s degree in industrial engineering from the Superior Technical Institute of Industrial Engineers of Gijón (Oviedo University, Spain).
Joseph Purington
President & CEO of Central Maine Power
Joe Purington was appointed President and CEO of Central Maine Power (CMP) in September 2021. The appointment brought Purington home to Maine and to CMP where he began his career in utility operations. Prior to rejoining CMP, Purington served as President of Eversource New Hampshire Operations where he was responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to more than 500,000 Eversource customers in New Hampshire. Prior to joining Eversource, Purington worked for CMP for 28 years in a range of operational roles, both in Maine, as well as Avangrid sister companies, New York State Electric & Gas and Rochester Gas and Electric. Purington served as Director of System Operations for Iberdrola USA (now Avangrid) and was responsible for ensuring that all energy control centers and substation operations met all federal,regional, and state compliance and regulatory requirements. In addition, Purington served as incident commander for major power restoration efforts.
A Maine native, Purington earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern New Hampshire University and actively engages with communities and organizations that support Mainers statewide.
Franklyn Reynolds
President & Chief Executive Officer, UIL Holdings Corporation
Franklyn D. Reynolds was appointed President and CEO of UIL Holdings Corporation in October of 2020. In this role, he oversees the electricity and natural gas operating companies of Avangrid Networks in Connecticut and Massachusetts. These include United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas, Connecticut Natural Gas, and Berkshire Gas of Massachusetts. A 30-year veteran of the utility industry, Reynolds previously served as Vice President of Gas Integration for Avangrid Networks, in which capacity he led the restructuring of the Gas Operations and Gas Engineering lines of business. He was President of Berkshire Gas from 2019 to 2020.
A Connecticut native, Reynolds holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of New Haven and a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology from Central Connecticut State University. He has completed executive course work at IMD Business School for Management, the Ross School of Business and at Wharton. Reynolds is also a 20-year veteran of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
Trish Nilsen
President & CEO, NYSEG and RG&E
Trish Nilsen serves as President and Chief Executive Officer for Rochester Gas and Electric (“RG&E”) and New York State Electric & Gas (“NYSEG”) and is a Paul Harris Fellow at District 7170 Owego Rotary. Ms. Nilsen has held various positions within NYSEG and RG&E since she joined the company in 1992. Most recently, she served as Avangrid Networks’ Vice President, Reliability Assurance and Emergency Preparedness, which included electric and natural gas emergency event response and served as a COVID liaison for the business. Her prior experience in the Companies was serving in Communications, Customer Service, Public Affairs and Human Resources capacities.
Ms. Nilsen received a Bachelor of Science from Alfred University, Master of Arts from Syracuse University and from Elmira College.
Ignacio Estella
Senior Vice President, DEI, Talent, and Innovation
Ignacio has served as Senior Vice President – DEI, Talent, and Innovation since July 2024. In this new role, he is committed to fostering an inclusive culture where all different perspectives are seen, heard, and are integral to driving innovation. Before assuming this newly formed role, Ignacio was Senior Vice President - Corporate Development with responsibility for delivering non-organic growth opportunities for the company beyond those of its present businesses. Ignacio also served as Corporate Vice President of Business Origination of Iberdrola, S.A. and, prior to that, as Gas Markets Development Director.
Ignacio holds a degree in law and business from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas and a master’s degree of public administration, with concentrations in industry analysis and strategic negotiation, from Harvard University.
R. Scott Mahoney
Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
Scott has served as Senior Vice President – General Counsel for Avangrid since December 2015 and was appointed Secretary of the Board of Directors of Avangrid in January 2016. Scott previously served in a number of legal and senior executive positions at Avangrid subsidiaries including vice president – general counsel and secretary of Avangrid Networks, Inc. Prior to joining Avangrid, Scott served as an attorney in the US Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, earning a Bronze Star for service in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. Scott serves on the board of directors of the Gulf of Maine Research Institute.
Scott holds a J.D. from the University of Maine and a master’s degree, with honors, in Environmental Law from the Vermont Law School. Scott also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from University of Warwick. He is a member of the bar in Maine, New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court, and the U.S. Court of Military Appeals. Scott is a Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional and a member of the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics.
Kimberly Harriman
Senior Vice President, State Government Affairs & Corporate Communications
Kim was appointed to the position of Senior Vice President, State Government Affairs & Corporate Communications in June 2022. Kim joined Avangrid at the end of 2020 as Vice President, State Government Relations and Public Affairs, coordinating state government relations and public affairs for electric and gas utility subsidiaries in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maine and renewable onshore and offshore energy projects across 22 states.
Prior to Avangrid, Kim worked for over 20 years on energy issues for the state of New York. She graduated from Albany Law School of Union University and holds a BA in political science with a minor in economics from Siena College.
Kyra Patterson
Senior Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer
Kyra Patterson was appointed to the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer of Avangrid in November 2021. She leads all facets of the HR organization, including talent management, diversity and inclusion, compensation and benefits, employee and labor relations, as well as strategic planning, and organizational effectiveness. She most recently served as Vice President - People Operations at AVANGRID and was responsible for labor relations, employee relations, HR shared service center, HR policy, and compliance. Prior to joining Avangrid, Kyra was the Director – Diversity and Inclusion at Diageo, N.A., successfully leading the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Throughout her career, she has provided subject matter expertise, thought leadership, and cross-cutting partnership to establish alignment between HR strategy, company culture, and business goals and outcomes.
Kyra holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Prairie View A&M University and a master’s degree in labor and human resources from Ohio State University.
She serves as a member of the American Association of Blacks in Energy.
Justin Lagasse
CFO and Senior Vice President – Controller
Justin Lagasse was appointed Senior Vice President – Controller in July 2023, and was appointed Interim CFO in November 2023 . He is responsible for all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, business performance, long-term planning, and administration for Avangrid and its two lines of business, Networks and Renewables. Prior to this role, Justin most recently served as Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer and was responsible for corporate accounting, consolidations and reporting, technical accounting, and internal controls. Before joining Avangrid, Justin served as Assurance Director at BDO, LLP in Southern California and Assurance Senior at a regional accounting firm in Maine.
Justin holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and master’s degree of business administration from Thomas College and holds an active Certified Public Accountant license in Maine.
Alfredo del Canto
Senior Vice President – Chief of Staff
Alfredo del Canto joined Avangrid as the Senior Vice President - Chief of Staff in April 2023. He manages a team that provides operational, financial, and strategic oversight for the Chief Executive Officer of Avangrid. Previously he worked at Iberdrola for fifteen years. His most recent role was the Head of Finance, Regulation, and Energy Policy at the Chairman and CEO’s Office serving as the liaison with the executive leadership team to implement strategic processes and prepare for board meetings, executive and operating committees, and the General Shareholder’s meeting. His prior roles at Iberdrola include representing the company at the International Energy Agency; planning, reporting, and regulation for Iberdrola’s global networks business; and Corporate Development. Alfredo began his career at Repsol working in financial risk.
Alfredo holds a degree in industrial engineering from ICAI (Universidad Pontificia Comillas) and a master’s degree in management of energy companies from IESE Business School.
Puneet Verma
Vice President, Government Affairs
Puneet Verma was appointed as Avangrid’s Vice President, Government Affairs in October 2020. He leads the advancement of federal policy efforts for Avangrid’s full suite of businesses including eight electric and natural gas utilities, as well as one of the largest renewables businesses in the U.S. With over 30 years of experience, Puneet has an extensive background and commercial understanding in diverse aspects of the energy sector ranging from policy, advocacy, and commercialization of new ventures. Currently, Puneet serves on the Executive Board of Directors for the American Clean Power Association, American Council on Renewable Energy, and the National Capital Area Council for Boy Scouts of America. Prior to joining Avangrid, Puneet worked in Government Affairs for Chevron.
Puneet has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Master of Business Administration degree from George Washington University.
