Climate Change & Decarbonization
Climate change is a serious threat and one of the most significant challenges of the 21st century. Scientific evidence shows that greenhouse gas emissions have accelerated global warming and that action to address climate change must occur. In alignment with the Paris Agreement as well as goal seven (Affordable and Clean Energy) and goal thirteen (Climate Action) of the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, Avangrid seeks to contribute actively and decisively to a low-carbon and sustainable future by supporting and promoting actions that address climate change, recognizing that such efforts must be compatible with social and economic growth.
From reducing our own carbon footprint to working with our partners and suppliers to do the same, to enabling our customers to adopt more efficient, renewable and lower-emitting technologies, we are committed to Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions reductions and to helping our communities transition to a clean energy economy that includes increased electrification of vehicles and heating systems.
Our Corporate Policies describe in more detail our Environmental, Social, and Governance commitments and principles, and are part of our comprehensive Governance and Sustainability System.
To learn more about Avangrid’s progress in the above areas, we invite you to view our Scorecards or read through our most recent Sustainability Report.
