Chief Executive Officer of Avangrid
José Antonio Miranda Soto was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Avangrid in June 2025. Avangrid, a leading energy company in the United States and a member of the Iberdrola Group, operates regulated utilities and energy infrastructure across more than 20 states, serving millions of customers through its electric and gas networks and generation assets.
With over two decades of global leadership experience in the energy sector, José Antonio brings a proven track record of operational excellence, strategic growth, and innovation in the industry.
Since joining Avangrid in 2021, José Antonio has held several key leadership roles, including President & CEO of Avangrid Power’s Onshore business and President & CEO of Avangrid Power. In these roles, he has overseen the strategic direction and operations of Avangrid’s extensive generation portfolio of over 10 GW of installed capacity across 21 U.S states.
Under his leadership, Avangrid Power achieved significant milestones, including the commercial operation of over 1,000 MW of new projects, final investment decisions for almost 2,000 MW, and the signing or renegotiation of over 2,000 MW in power purchase agreements. In addition, José Antonio also played a key role in advancing some of the company’s major infrastructure projects, including Vineyard Wind 1, the nation’s first utility-scale offshore wind energy project.
Prior to joining Avangrid, José Antonio held senior leadership roles at Siemens Gamesa, including CEO of the Americas region and Chairman of its Boards in the U.S., Mexico, and Brazil. He also served as Gamesa’s CEO in Asia and Latin America, where he consistently delivered strong financial results, expanded market share, and improved operational governance. Earlier in his career, he also held various leadership roles at the multinational engineering firm ABB in Spain, managing business units and key accounts in the transmission and distribution sector.
José Antonio has also served on the Board of Directors for the American Clean Power Association, Secretary of the Board and Executive Committee member of the American Wind Energy Association, and member of the High-Level Climate Action Panel (HICAP) for the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
José Antonio holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidad de Oviedo and an MBA from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE). He is fluent in Spanish, English, and French.
