Avangrid Foundation donates $30,000 to Convoy Opera House project

CONVOY – Avangrid Renewables donated their biggest amount yet in the community on Thursday.

A $30,000 donation from the Avangrid Foundation was given to the Convoy Historical Society to help with the Convoy Opera House project.

Larry Webb of the Convoy Historical Society said that the money will help to complete phase one which required $120,000 and give them a good start on phase two.

“The first phase is to restore the Opera House itself,” said Webb. “We bought the other building on the other side that will eventually come across. We want to put restrooms in the back, and we want to put in a food preparation area so if someone wants to come up and have a dinner they can do that.”

Other areas of restoration include a renovated lobby and restoration of walls and doors.

The Convoy Historical Society was awarded $60,000 from the State Capital Improvements Fund to help kick off the project in early 2016. Since then, many different organizations have come together to donate money.
