Vineyard Wind is developing the first large-scale offshore wind farm in the United State. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts selected Vineyard as the preferred solution in the spring of 2018 to build an 800 megawatt (MW) wind farm and electricity transmission project to deliver clean offshore windpower to Massachusetts customers, with 400 MW slated to reach commercial operation in 2021, and 400 MW in 2022. Avangrid Renewables is the 50% owner of Vineyard Wind along with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
Avangrid Renewables won the Kitty Hawk offshore wind area bid from the federal government to lease 122,405 offshore acres off the coast of North Carolina and Virginia, and has begun the highly technical process of studying the area in more detail as part of early stage project development.
