AVANGRID recognizes that electrifying the transportation sector is a key solution for the de-carbonization of the environment. The benefits of electric vehicles (EVs) have been well documented and many states have incorporated EVs as part of their sustainability and decarbonisation policies. In addition to the environmental benefits, increased use of EVs can improve asset utilization by increasing non-peak electricity use which has the potential to reduce electricity rates for all customers.
We invest in renewable generation resources, support advanced research for energy and smart grid innovation, promote conservation and the use of electric, hybrid or compressed natural gas vehicles, support responsible environmental policies, and seek to reduce our carbon footprint.
AVANGRID is developing a plan and road map to promote EVs to customers, and to ensure that EV infrastructure, such as charging equipment, is sufficient to meet local goals, customer needs and EV technological advances.
In Maine, CMP has committed $5 million to fund the development of EV infrastructure across the state by offering rebates and support for EV purchases and charging station development. In New York, NYSEG and RG&E have implemented three EV pilot projects and have proposed a $29 million EV program to expand charging infrastructure across the companies’ service areas—encompassing more than 45,000 miles across the state.
AVANGRID has a goal of converting 60% of its fleet, including 100% of light duty vehicles, to cleaner energy vehicles by 2030. To support this goal AVANGRID plans on installing over 900 charging stations at its facilities to enable fleet and employee electric vehicle charging.
