Mission: The Avangrid Foundation in partnership with the of the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale, located in New Haven, Conn., is helping to restore three of the museum’s North American dioramas: the Bison/Short Grass Plains, Mule Deer and Black Bear. The dioramas at the Yale Peabody Museum, created in the mid-20th century, are considered masterpieces in the museum world. They help us learn about the natural world, conservation, preservation and the impacts of human development in our landscape. But as the Peabody’s dioramas age, with some specimens over a century old, conservation and restoration work has become imperative—recreated vegetation is faded and damaged, and the taxidermy animals need considerable repair and restoration. Museum preparatory Michael Anderson works to ensure another generation experiences these classic exhibits.
